In vivo Pharmacology

Customized murine animal models for your specific disease area in accredited North American facilities

Our in vivo pharmacology team offers comprehensive in vivo and ex vivo pharmacology services in CCAC accredited facilities (equivalent to AAALAC certification in the United States).  Our expertise spans various therapeutic areas, including oncology, metabolic disorders, inflammatory diseases, and CNS diseases. Tailoring our study designs to your specific requirements and budget, we establish and validate custom disease models for efficacy screening, pharmacodynamics, and MOA studies. The team is supported by internal PK/bioanalytical, ex vivo pharmacology and in vitro biology teams to provide integrated services. Animal-based studies are conducted under protocols approved by institutional animal care committees.

"Thank you for all your help with this project and setting us up for success. And thank you very much… for years of this wonderful collaboration. I have really enjoyed working with you. I hope that I will get to work with your team again in the future…"

Examples of implemented rodent models

  • Xenograft, allogeneic and orthotopic cancer models in mice
  • Local infection and sepsis (CLP, LPS)
  • Rat paw edema
  • Inherited metabolic disorders: mouse colony establishment and maintenance
  • Acute kidney injury
  • Delayed Type Hypersensitivity (DTH) and Passive Cutaneous Anaphylaxis (PCA) models

Optimized compound delivery

  • Custom formulation
  • Diverse routes of administration: intravenous, gavage, sub-cutaneous, intraperitoneal, intratumoral, intracerebroventricular, intrathecal, hydrodynamic tail vein injection (in vivo transfection).
  • Dosing schedule based on test article PK parameters

Surgical procedures

  • ACL resection for osteoarthritis model

  • Cecal ligation and puncture

In-life multiple readouts

  • Functional Observational Battery (FOB)
  • Survival curve (Kaplan-Meier)
  • Metabolic cages
  • Motor function and coordination (Rotarod)

Ex vivo pharmacology and biomarkers

Our team of biologists can perform ex vivo analysis to confirm the in vivo effect of test articles and to establish correlation between in vivo efficacy and biomarkers. Analyzed samples include blood, serum, plasma, CSF, tissue extracts, urine and feces.

  • Quantitative mRNA analysis
  • Protein expression analysis
  • Biochemical assays
  • Blood biochemistry and hematology
  • Coagulation assays
  • Full necropsy at endpoint
  • Tissue dissection and preservation for downstream applications, compatible with multiple methods of RNA extraction, plasma cytokine analysis, histopathology and IHC, etc.
  • Histopathology and Immunohistochemistry
