Principal Scientist/Associate Director in Biophysics and Biochemistry

Job Description

 Paraza carries out preclinical drug discovery research with Biotech clients from across North America. We work on a diverse project portfolio covering many disease areas and all stages of drug discovery from target validation and lead identification to candidate selection. Our Biological Sciences Department has an opportunity for a highly experienced Biochemist to fulfill a key role in the department.

Key responsibilities include 

  • Guide experimental work within the biochemical team, including:
    • biophysical analysis of small-molecule-protein interaction
    • development and performance of plate-based assays
    • other mechanism of action studies
    • production and purification of recombinant proteins
  • Perform experimental work as needed in one or more of these areas
  • Mentor team members in project strategy and interpretation and communication of experimental data
  • Be an active member of the Paraza Biology leadership team and work effectively with colleagues in other departments

 Minimum Qualifications 

  • Ph.D. in biophysics, biochemistry, or closely related field and a minimum of ten years post-PhD work experience, including at least five years work experience in a Biotech or Pharma setting
  • Recognized expertise in different sub-disciplines critical for small-molecule drug discovery, including: protein expression and purification, plate-based biochemical assays, and/or biophysical analysis of protein-small molecule interactions
  • High level of self-confidence and a demonstrated ability to propose new directions for research or novel solutions to biochemical/drug discovery problems
  • Management experience in a Biotech/Pharma setting
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
  • Demonstrated commitment to the Paraza values of respect, listening, empowerment, flexibility and transparency

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience in multiple biophysical techniques
  • Experience with laboratory automation
  • Strong communication skills in French
