Job description for In vivo Pharmacology Research Assistant

 The Biological Sciences Department at Paraza has an opening for a highly motivated Research Assistant in preclinical in vivo pharmacology. The candidate will join our In Vivo Pharmacology team to execute preclinical studies in rodents (mice and rats) and to provide data on drug candidates. At Paraza we work on a diverse project portfolio covering many disease areas; therefore the ideal candidate will have an ability to successfully transition between projects and research areas. The ideal candidate must know how to work effectively while respecting the guidelines of the Canadian Council on Animal Care (CCAC), as well as, the rules and quality standards established by Paraza Pharma.


  • Participate in study design and preparation of preclinical studies.
  • Fully support execution of preclinical studies in rodents in different disease areas (oncology, inflammation or other) and various disorders.
  • Tasks include animal handling and drug administration via multiple routes (IV, IP, SC, PO).
  • Assess clinical signs of animal well-being.
  • Collect biological samples (blood and tissues).
  • Communicate and coordinate with other scientists. Follow protocols and independently execute tasks.
  • Collect and record data. Prepare summary of experimental procedures and results.
  • Perform other duties as directed by Management.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Animal technician with research laboratory experience or University degree in pharmacology, biology or related field with 1-3 years of experience in a laboratory setting.
  • Demonstrated experience in small animal handling is required.
  • Demonstrated experience in surgical procedures is an asset.
  • Experience with preclinical mouse models (oncology, inflammation or other) is an asset.
  • Experience with mouse colony management is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability for quality execution, attention to details, and proficient in multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment.
  • Team player working collaboratively in team setting.
  • Excellent communication skills.
