Lab Manager job description

 

The rapidly growing Biological Sciences Department at Paraza has an opportunity for a lab manager.  As lab manager you will be part of the Logistics group but will be required to work closely with members of the biology team.  You will maintain stocks of key reagents, ensure functioning of lab equipment, and in general see that the biology laboratory is functioning smoothly.

 

Key activities may include:

  • Proactively identifying areas that need attention and proposing solutions to challenges in the functioning of the laboratory
  • Maintaining optimum functionality of cell culture and other departmental infrastructure (e.g. incubators, biological hoods, CO2 tanks)
  • Maintaining and calibrating pipettes and instruments, and helping to arrange for repair or purchase when needed
  • Ordering reagents and consumables needed for functioning of the laboratory.
  • Maintaining inventories for consumables, including chemicals, antibodies and cell lines
  • Shipping temperature sensitive items to clients and receiving packages from suppliers. Following up on incoming or outgoing packages
  • Helping other members of the group with basic tasks of laboratory function such as waste management, autoclaving and dishwashing as well as making common buffers and solutions

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Sc. in biology or closely related discipline. Alternatively, a B.Sc. in biology with several years of work experience.  Salary will be commensurate with level of education and experience.
  • Exceptional leadership, organizational and communication skills are required
  • Must be familiar with the operation of standard lab equipment and with lab safety and biosafety procedures.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing an academic or industrial biology laboratory.
  • Hands-on expertise in cell culture and other activities taking place in a biotech/pharma biology laboratory
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently and independently prioritize activities as needed
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both French and English

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Pharma/Biotech laboratory activities
