Job Description Scientist – In vivo DMPK (Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetic)

As a member of the DMPK group, the candidate will be mainly responsible for the planning and conduct of pharmacokinetic (PK) studies in rodent (rats and mice) to assess novel chemical entities in vivo. The candidate may also be involved with external communications with clients and partners to ensure the proper conduct of the studies under the group’s responsibility. The successful candidate will work in accordance with guidelines from the Canadian Council on Animal Care and Paraza Pharma’s internal regulations and quality standards to deliver results on a stringent schedule. Related tasks will involve performing surgeries, drug formulation preparation and/or development and administration through different routes, specimen sampling, animal monitoring, data analysis and reporting.


  • Pharmacokinetic studies:
    • Plan and perform different surgeries in rodents aiming at the cannulation of arteries, veins or ducts
    • Animal handling and dose administration (oral, ip, sc, iv)
    • Perform clinical sign assessment of well-being (weight monitoring, visual inspection)
  • Collection of biological samples:
    • Blood and/or biological fluids collection
    • Organ harvesting (with or without perfusion)
  • Data analysis:
    • Data entry and recording (ELN, Excel, various database)
    • Non-compartmental analysis of plasma concentration data (WinNonlin)
    • Report writing
    • Report reviewing


  • University degree in biochemistry, pharmacology or related scientific field
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Bilingual (French and English)
  • Experience in the industry in the DMPK, pharmacology or other related fields will be highly considered
  • Previous experience performing surgeries followed by full recovery is considered an asset
  • Experience using Phoenix WinNonlin software is considered an asset
  • Demonstrated team work spirit with capability to succeed in a fast-paced environment, working on multiple projects with constantly changing priorities and deadlines
