Associate Scientist (in vivo) or Animal Technician

We are currently seeking for an in vivo associate Scientist or an Animal Technician for our DMPK (Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetic) group.

JOB DESCRIPTION

As a member of the DMPK group, the candidate will be mainly responsible for the conduct of pharmacokinetic studies in rodent (rats and mice) to assess novel chemical entities in vivo. The successful candidate will work in accordance with guidelines from the Canadian Council on Animal Care and internal regulations to deliver results in a stringent schedule while maintaining excellent animal care standards. Related tasks will involve performing cannulation surgeries, drug administration through different (oral, intravenous, subcutaneous, intraperitoneal), specimen collection and animal monitoring. Depending on candidate’s profile, this person might also be involved in PK-data analysis. The selected candidate will need to use his/her personal vehicle for local transportation to different vivarium location (Laval, Montreal) and will receive a final compensation for doing so.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Pharmacokinetic studies in rodent:
    • Perform different surgeries aiming at the canulation of arteries, veins or ducts
    • Animal handling and dose administration (oral, ip, sc, iv)
    • Perform clinical sign assessment (weight monitoring, visual inspection)
  • Collection of biological samples:
    • Blood collection manually or via the use of automatic blood samplers.
    • Organ harvest
  • Other:
    • Record data entries and observations in study files
    • May participate in the development of dosing formulation
    • May be involved in PK-data analysis

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Technical degree in animal care or bachelor, master degree in Sciences
  • Bilingual (French and English)
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry
  • Previous experience performing surgeries followed by full recovery will be considered as an important asset
  • Demonstrated team work spirit with capability to succeed in a fast-paced environment, working on multiple projects with constantly changing priorities and deadlines.
