Scientist – in vitro Biology

Scientist opportunity in drug discovery and in vitro biology

Paraza Pharma Inc., located in Montreal, Canada, is a fast growing company that has built its global reputation on providing high quality fully integrated drug discovery services. The company is staffed with growing list of talented scientific personnel, currently numbering close to 100.  The company supports drug discovery projects that include in house capabilities in the area of medicinal chemistry, computational chemistry, process development, ADME, and biology.

The biology department at Paraza is growing. We currently have an opportunity for in vitro biologists who can help establish and perform the assays  needed to guide our medicinal chemists as they seek to produce small molecules with the properties necessary for advancement to clinical studies.  You should also be able to suggest and implement novel experiments to answer key mechanism of action or translational biology questions. Your specific background is less important than your ability to rapidly grasp the needs of a project, to implement plate assays and other experiments, produce high-quality data on newly synthesized compounds, and effectively communicate results to Paraza staff and to customers. In particular, both cellular biologists and  biochemists will be considered for these positions.

In vitro biology Scientist job description

Key activities may include:

– Establishment of cellular and biochemical assays in 96- and 384-well plates

– Characterization of small molecule pharmacology in cells, using for example IP- Westerns, Fluorescence microscopy, QRT-PCR, and/or flow cytometry

– Manipulation of established cell lines or primary cells, including generation of novel cell lines with knock-out or over expression of genes of interest

– Biochemical/biophysical characterization of small molecule mechanisms of action, using for example MS, spectroscopy of various types, enzymology and/or surface plasmon resonance/biolayer interferometry

– Regular communication of results, interpretations, and future plans with company management and customers

Requirements:

– Ph.D. or M.Sc. in biology or closely related discipline. The level of hire will be commensurate with level of education and experience.

– High level of self-confidence and a demonstrated ability to propose new directions for research or novel solutions to biology/drug discovery problems.

– Demonstrated knowledge of small molecule drug discovery, including necessary laboratory activities to advance lead optimization projects from the Discovery stage into Development is a plus.

– Experience in establishing the biochemical and/or cellular mechanism of action of small molecule drug candidates is a plus.

– Experience in setting up, performing, and trouble shooting 96/384-well plate assays, including analysis and reporting of assay results a plus.

– Experience with animal models of disease a plus.

– Experience with liquid handling work stations and other automation a plus.

– Ability to communicate effectively in English- oral, written, presentations. Working knowledge of French is desirable.
